The containers beside this CNC line represent work in process: parts that have a part number, lot, operation and inspection status. Keeping WIP close to the machine can support flow, but excess inventory hides problems and increases the quantity affected before a dimension trend is noticed.
Batch size is influenced by customer releases, casting lot, machine setup, coating schedule and packaging. A very large batch reduces changeovers but can delay feedback. A smaller controlled lot allows early machining and inspection results to be reviewed before the remaining castings are committed. Huabo balances these factors for each repeat program.
| WIP control | Quality benefit |
|---|---|
| Limited quantity between checks | Reduces containment if a tool wears or breaks |
| Dedicated container orientation | Protects machined and cosmetic surfaces |
| Visible operation status | Prevents an unfinished part from moving forward |
| FIFO where appropriate | Maintains predictable flow and lot order |
State traceability depth, retention period for records, critical dimensions and any required capability study. Automotive or safety-related projects may require stronger lot and process records than general industrial hardware. The requirement should be agreed before production so container labels and inspection reports capture the necessary information.
