Precision Aluminum Die Casting Gearbox Housing with Machined Interfaces locates bearings, shafts, seals and mounting interfaces while containing lubricant and supporting external loads. A gearbox casing can meet individual bore sizes and still fail assembly if the bores, split face and mounting datum are not controlled as one geometric system.

Huabo requests the bearing, shaft, cover and seal relationships that influence the housing drawing. The review identifies the primary mounting face, bore alignment chain, sealing perimeter, oil passages and fastener pattern. Casting ribs and bosses are then evaluated around those functions so material supports the load path without creating isolated heavy sections.
| Functional area | Risk | Process control | Verification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bearing bores | Misalignment, size drift or poor finish | Stable datum, controlled setup and tool-life monitoring | Bore gauge plus CMM relationship check |
| Split or cover face | Leak path, rocking or uneven gasket compression | Machining allowance, fixture support and surface-finish requirement | Flatness/profile and specified leak test |
| Seal diameter | Runout or damage during handling | Machine relative to shaft datum and protect after inspection | Diameter and runout measurement |
| Oil port/thread | Chips, burrs or incomplete thread | Controlled drilling/tapping followed by washing | Thread gauge and cleanliness check |
| Mounting feet | Housing distortion in final assembly | Define support datums and machining sequence | Fixture, surface plate or CMM |
Bearing bosses require sufficient structure, but abrupt thickness can increase shrinkage and porosity. DFM reviews boss diameter, rib connection, wall transition and machining stock together. Gate and overflow positions are considered in relation to the bearing and sealing regions. The objective is not to claim a pore-free casting everywhere; it is to manage process risk where machining, sealing and load make porosity important.
A practical sequence first creates or confirms the datum that represents gearbox installation. Related bores, faces and dowel holes are machined with as few unnecessary setups as possible. Fixture support prevents clamping from temporarily changing the housing shape. If the housing uses a separate cover, both sides of the joint must use compatible datum and gasket definitions.
Leak performance depends on wall integrity, machined surface, gasket, fasteners and test method. The RFQ should identify the contained fluid, test medium, pressure, holding time and allowable leakage. Huabo can then review casting wall, cut depth, impregnation policy if permitted, washing and test equipment. A general word such as “sealed” is not used in place of measurable acceptance criteria.
Residual chips in an oil gallery or blind threaded hole can damage gears and bearings. The process plan identifies passages that require directed washing, blowing or visual confirmation. Protective plugs may be used after cleaning when the part will travel through coating or export packing. Cleanliness limits and test methods should be provided for applications with formal particle requirements.
First-article inspection verifies the complete datum relationship between bearing bores, seal diameters, mounting faces and dowel locations. Surface finish and thread results are recorded with the dimensional report where required. Production control combines CMM verification with bore gauges, thread gauges and fixtures at frequencies based on the control plan. Tool and fixture changes trigger review of affected characteristics.
Natural, conversion-coated, painted or powder-coated conditions can be supplied according to the drawing. Bearing seats, split faces, oil ports and grounding points are masked or protected as required. Machined seal and bearing surfaces receive protective packaging so corrosion, impact or rubbing cannot undo the work completed during machining.
Provide 3D and controlled 2D files, bearing and seal interfaces, alloy, finish, annual volume, batch quantity, leak test, cleanliness requirement and critical characteristics. Huabo can combine aluminum die casting, tooling, precision CNC machining, washing, finishing and CMM inspection.
Can two bearing bores be machined in one setup?
It is evaluated from housing geometry, tool access, equipment travel and tolerance. One controlled setup can reduce alignment variation when practical.
How is leakage tested?
The customer defines medium, pressure, time and acceptance limit. The test scope may cover the casting alone or an assembled housing, depending on the drawing.
Can the housing be delivered clean and ready for assembly?
Yes. Washing, chip control, protective plugs, final inspection and assembly-oriented packing can be included when requirements are defined.
