A round fan motor end cover affects more than the outside shape of the fan motor. It helps locate the bearing, maintain air gap, support airflow clearance and reduce noise caused by misalignment or rubbing. A low-cost cover can become expensive if it causes vibration, assembly stress or customer complaints after the motor is running.

Fan motors are sensitive to the relationship between bearing seat, rotor clearance and mounting face. If the bearing bore is off-center or the cover face is not controlled, the air gap may change around the rotation. This can increase noise, reduce efficiency or create rubbing risk. The drawing should mark the bearing seat and related datum clearly.
For die cast covers, the bearing seat is usually machined after casting. The casting must leave enough stock, and the CNC fixture must use a stable reference. A good supplier should ask how the cover assembles with the motor instead of only quoting the outside diameter.
| Feature | Why it matters | Control method |
|---|---|---|
| Bearing seat | Controls rotor position and noise | CNC machine and inspect from functional datum |
| Round mounting face | Affects alignment with motor body | Check flatness and face relationship |
| Airflow openings or clearance | Prevents restriction and rubbing | Review burrs, edge condition and assembly clearance |
| Rib or spoke structure | Supports stiffness without excess weight | Balance rib thickness and avoid shrinkage zones |
| Coated exterior | Protects appearance and corrosion resistance | Define coating thickness and protect machined areas |
Motor noise is often blamed on the motor assembly, but the cover can contribute if bore alignment, flatness or burrs are not controlled. A small burr near a rotating clearance area may create rubbing. A poorly controlled bearing bore may increase vibration. A deformed cover may change the relationship between stator and rotor after tightening screws.
Buyers should ask for the inspection method that matches the risk. For a simple fan, dimensional checks may be enough. For a higher-speed or low-noise motor, bore relationship, runout-related checks or assembly trial feedback may be useful.
| Sample approval item | Purpose | Suggested evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Bearing bore dimension | Confirms bearing fit | Measured value and tolerance comparison |
| Bore-to-face relationship | Controls motor alignment | CMM or fixture check |
| Burr condition | Prevents rubbing and handling issues | Visual standard around openings and edges |
| Coating condition | Maintains appearance without affecting assembly | Thickness and masking check |
| Packing protection | Protects circular face and machined bore | Packing sample or photo approval |
Send bearing information, motor speed or noise requirement if available, mounting datum, airflow clearance, surface finish, annual quantity and whether the cover will be assembled with mating parts during sample approval.
