Aluminum vs Zinc Die Casting Equipment

Aluminum and zinc die casting are related processes, but they are not interchangeable machine assignments. Material choice comes before tonnage

Aluminum alloys are widely used where low weight, thermal behavior and larger structural housings matter. Zinc alloys can be useful for smaller precision components, thin details and parts that benefit from zinc's casting characteristics. The drawing should not specify an alloy only because a previous supplier used it; assembly load, environment, coating, threads and cost over the full process should be reviewed.

Why the same clamping number does not mean the same capability

Machine tonnage represents mold clamping force, not maximum part weight or guaranteed quality. A tool also needs compatible platen dimensions, tie-bar clearance, shot capacity and opening stroke. Comparing quotations

Ask each supplier to state the proposed alloy, cavity count, machine range, machining route and key inspection plan. A lower raw casting price can be misleading if it requires heavier machining, difficult coating or additional sorting. For a new project, send annual volume and expected program life so tooling and production assumptions can be compared on the same basis.
