FAQ for pump end cover housing die casting

1. What information is needed before quoting a pump end cover housing?

Send the 3D model, 2D drawing, material requirement, sealing face details, thread standard, expected annual quantity, surface finish and inspection requirement. If the cover works with pressure, include pressure value, medium and leak test expectation.

2. Should the sealing face be cast or CNC machined?

If the face contacts a gasket, O-ring or machined pump body, CNC machining is usually safer. A raw casting face may be acceptable only when the sealing requirement is low and the drawing allows it. Buyers should mark flatness, roughness and no-coating areas clearly.

3. How much machining allowance should be left?

The exact allowance depends on part size, casting stability and final tolerance. The important point is to define which faces and holes require machining before tooling. Too little allowance may fail to clean the surface; too much allowance increases CNC time and can expose defects.

4. How are threaded holes controlled?

Threaded holes should be checked by thread gauge and effective depth. If threads are near sealing or pressure zones, the buyer should specify the thread standard and whether coating must be masked or cleaned after finishing.

5. When is leak testing necessary?

Leak testing is necessary when the cover seals a pressure cavity or fluid path. Buyers should define test pressure, medium, holding time and acceptance criteria. If only sample validation is needed, say that. If every piece needs testing, that affects fixture and cost.

6. What defects are most important for pump cover castings?

Porosity near sealing faces, scratches on machined faces, burrs around ports, thread damage and coating build-up in functional areas are more important than minor cosmetic marks on hidden surfaces.

7. How should inspection be arranged?

Inspection should include machined sealing face, threaded holes, port position, flatness, burr condition and packing protection. For new tooling, a first article report based on a marked drawing is recommended.
