This FAQ is written for buyers who source Custom Aluminum Die Casting pump end cover housings and need practical answers before quotation, tooling or sample approval. The key topics are sealing faces, threads, CNC machining, leak risk, inspection and packing.

| Question | Why it matters | What to send to supplier |
|---|---|---|
| Does the cover seal oil, air or water? | Sealing risk changes machining and inspection | Pressure, medium and sealing method |
| Which face is the functional datum? | CNC machining and hole position depend on datum | 2D drawing with marked datum |
| Are ports or threads pressure-related? | Thread quality may affect leakage | Thread standard, depth and gauge requirement |
| Will the part be coated? | Coating can affect sealing and threads | Masking and no-coating notes |
Send the 3D model, 2D drawing, material requirement, sealing face details, thread standard, expected annual quantity, surface finish and inspection requirement. If the cover works with pressure, include pressure value, medium and leak test expectation.
If the face contacts a gasket, O-ring or machined pump body, CNC machining is usually safer. A raw casting face may be acceptable only when the sealing requirement is low and the drawing allows it. Buyers should mark flatness, roughness and no-coating areas clearly.
The exact allowance depends on part size, casting stability and final tolerance. The important point is to define which faces and holes require machining before tooling. Too little allowance may fail to clean the surface; too much allowance increases CNC time and can expose defects.
Threaded holes should be checked by thread gauge and effective depth. If threads are near sealing or pressure zones, the buyer should specify the thread standard and whether coating must be masked or cleaned after finishing.
Leak testing is necessary when the cover seals a pressure cavity or fluid path. Buyers should define test pressure, medium, holding time and acceptance criteria. If only sample validation is needed, say that. If every piece needs testing, that affects fixture and cost.
Porosity near sealing faces, scratches on machined faces, burrs around ports, thread damage and coating build-up in functional areas are more important than minor cosmetic marks on hidden surfaces.
Inspection should include machined sealing face, threaded holes, port position, flatness, burr condition and packing protection. For new tooling, a first article report based on a marked drawing is recommended.
| Inspection item | Recommended method | Buyer note |
|---|---|---|
| Sealing face | Flatness and surface check | Inspect after CNC and protect during packing |
| Threads | Go/no-go gauge and depth check | Confirm standard before production |
| Ports | Position and burr inspection | Cleanliness may be needed for fluid systems |
| Leak function | Pressure or air test | Define acceptance criteria in RFQ |
